Leyning Questions

  1. How can I sign up to leyn (read an aliyah from the Torah)?
Contact Joe Rosenstein by email or phone.
  2. How often may I leyn?
As often as you like! We will work with you to arrange an aliyah of a length that is comfortable for you.
  3. How can I learn to leyn?
On-line lessons on leyning are available from ORT at their web site. This site has a page with the ta-ah-mim (notes) and how to chant them. Another site, Ellie's Trope tutor, has the ta-ah-mim (notes) for special occasions, and rare tropes, as well as the Shabbat trope. Temple Bethel of Sudbury Massachusetts has the trope organized into 41 phrases (patterns) which is a good method for learning the trope.
The minyan also has a set of tapes for learning to leyn which may be signed out upon request.
